Not long ago, Bruce was sitting on his back porch drinking bourbon and smoking a cigar and a thought came to him. He texted Michael “Do you want to make booze?” Michael responded “Yes” and soon they were off on their journey. Little did these two men know that in a few short years they’d be producing some of the world’s best-tasting bourbon and owning the #1 micro distillery in America.

Led by two serial accomplishers, Bruce Tyler and Michael Hinderliter, Weldon Mills Distillery is driven by a commitment to become the most accomplished distillery in North Carolina and to stand alongside the long-established legends in the bourbon and spirits industry. The desire to create, distill, and deliver products worthy of special occasions with family and friends is WMD’s driving force.

Mike was more than a master of his craft; he was a steward of tradition, an innovator in the art of small-batch distillation, and a guiding force whose influence will continue to be felt in every bottle Weldon Mills sells. His passion for bourbon, commitment to quality, and generous spirit left an enduring mark on Weldon Mills and on all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him. Mike’s legacy lives on in the exceptional bourbon whiskey he crafted and in the standard of excellence he inspires us to uphold.

THE ROANOKE RIVER

Weldon Mills Distillery benefits from the pristine waters of the Roanoke River Valley and its many natural springs and tributaries. For centuries, the region’s water was prized by Native American tribes, British settlers, and Revolutionary War armies alike. It was even requested by dignitaries and political leaders for shipment around the world for personal use. As a foundational ingredient in our award-winning bourbons, this remarkable water not only enhances the character of our spirits, but also provides a stunning natural backdrop for guests exploring Weldon Mills and the surrounding area.

LOCALLY SOURCED IN NORTH CAROLINA

There’s an old saying that something is only as good as the sum of its parts. In our case, that is especially true. Our bourbons are defined by the quality of the ingredients we use to make them. From the water to the barley, corn, and wheat, everything is locally sourced in North Carolina. We produce less bourbon than many other distilleries, but what fills our barrels for aging, and ultimately our bottles for enjoyment, is the result of the finest ingredients, our passion for the craft, and a desire to create something worthy of being shared with family and friends on life’s happiest occasions.
